4 Tips for Choosing the Perfect Pool Design

Whether you have decided to get a pool in your backyard or indoors, it can be a great addition to your home. It can be a great source of fun and relaxation while providing you with a space for exercising. Not to mention, it can add value to your property.

But, before you call in the pros to come and build a pool, you need to figure out the best pool design for your space and needs.

To give you an idea, here are some tips to help you choose the perfect pool design.

1. Assess Your Space

For starters, you need to assess the space you have available. Whether it’s your backyard or an indoor area, the size and shape will significantly influence the pool design options you can consider. That is why you should take measurements and note any existing features like trees, gardens, or patios that you want to keep.

You should also think about how the pool will fit into your overall landscape.

Will it complement your garden, deck, indoor bar, or outdoor kitchen? Make sure to leave enough space for lounging areas, pathways, and possibly even a pool house or storage for pool equipment.

2. Consider Your Budget

The next step is to set a budget. If you don’t create a budget for your swimming pool early on, you might end up spending more on pool installation than you can easily afford or might have to delay the project to arrange funds.

Your budget will affect the size, shape, and materials of your pool. In-ground pools are generally more expensive than above-ground pools because there is plenty of construction involved. Not to mention, complex shapes and features like waterfalls, bridges, or slides can increase the costs.

Don’t forget to think about the ongoing maintenance expenses as well.

3. Choose the Right Pool Type

There are several types of pools you can choose from, and each pool construction comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. The main types are concrete, vinyl, and fiberglass pools.

– Concrete Pools: These are highly durable and customizable. You can design them in almost any shape or size. But they take longer to build, and can be more expensive.

– Vinyl Pools: These are usually less expensive than concrete pools and have a smoother surface. They come in a variety of pre-designed shapes and sizes, but custom designs are limited. Not to mention, you need to replace the liner every 7-10 years.

– Fiberglass Pools: These come pre-formed from the factory and are quickly installed. They have a smooth surface that resists algae growth and requires less maintenance. The downside is that they are less customizable than the other options.

4. Safety and Local Regulations

Safety is one of the most important aspects of designing a pool. Make sure to include safety features such as pool fencing, covers, and alarms. These are especially important if you have young children or pets.

You also need to check local building codes and regulations surrounding pool construction in your area. Some places have specific requirements for fencing, pool depth, and distance from property lines. That is why you need to make sure that your pool complies with local laws to avoid potential legal issues and fines later on.
